Power 4 Class of 2025 Recruiting Rankings: Week 8
Where do the Power 4 teams stand through the first weekend in October?
After an exciting weekend of college football, including the smartest thing an Ohio State quarterback has ever done, things have remained fairly calm on the recruiting front. The biggest shake-up in the rankings are Auburn jumping Georgia in the Top 5 and Miami (FL) entering the Top 10, each thanks to flipping a wide receiver.
Miami has been shooting up the rankings at the explicit expense of every other school in Florida, to a frankly shocking extent. They lead all Florida P4 schools with 8 commitments from FL blue chips. UF follows with 6 such commitments while FSU and UCF are tied with 4 a piece. It’s worth some further analysis as to how this happened. In particular, I’m really interested to see how the schools are competing in south Florida/the Miami metro since that’s where most of the in-state talent resides.
Another storyline to keep your eye on is Auburn and Tennessee being recruiting forces on par with traditional SEC powers Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. I’m particularly interested in what’s happening in Atlanta, and Auburn. We know Hugh Freeze has a history recruiting above his programs’ weight classes, but I want to contextualize against Auburn’s recent history. I also just find Tennessee amusing since they actually have and are bringing in Dudes to run a whacky Art Briles offense.
Notable Flips:
Lucas, TX 4 Star WR Daylan McCutcheon (Florida State → Texas)
Texas now has 3 blue chip WRs in their 2025 Class, including 5 stars Jaime Ffrench and Kaliq Lockett. If Arch Manning actually stays all 4 years like he says he will, this could pose a tremendous threat to the SEC’s passing defenses.
De Kalb, MS 4 Star OT Mario Nash (Mississippi State → Florida State)
Nash is a nice “stop the bleeding” moment for Florida State. Their season is a massive disappointment, and they’ve lost 2 blue chip commits from their already small recruiting class. Bringing in Nash fights against this wave of negativity, but time will tell if this is a tide reversal or just a dead cat bounce.
Atlanta, GA 3 Star WR Sam Turner (Georgia Tech → Auburn)
I don’t want to get into the habit of pointing out every time a 3 star flips their commitment - this roundup would get way too long! - but this commitment gave Auburn the minuscule boost needed to overtake Georgia at #4.
Pembroke Pines, FL 4 Star WR Joshua Moore (Florida → Miami)
Baton Rogue, LA 4 Star DB Jacob Bradford (Houston → LSU)
Auburn has always been in fertile recruiting territory, plus they are playing more freshman than nearly anyone this year.
